M&M has been acting for plaintiffs or defendants in Admiralty litigation since the mid-Fifties. Instructions came from law firms in major shipping centres of the world and from P&I clubs, as well as directly from shipowners, ship managers, merchants, shipyards and other shipping stakeholders. Such instructions related to both dry and wet litigation cases, some involving the arrest of a ship, some the release of a ship from detention or arrest.
Since the early Seventies, on instructions from London and New York based ship financing institutions as well as European and Far Eastern banking hubs, our Firm has been acting for enforcement in Cyprus of ship mortgages and other security documents. We also provide advice and assistance for similar enforcement action abroad, when the security issue involves a Cyprus-flag vessel or pledged shares of a Cypriot company.
In the course of our litigation practice, M&M has been involved in and has successfully handled several landmark cases before the Supreme Court of Cyprus, both in the Admiralty and Appellate Jurisdictions.
